New Bangalore International Airport

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

The Bangalore Internation Airport which has been in the making for the last 10 years is finally set to take off. The project has been delayed by the red tapism, beuracratic set up, infrastructure problems & others is finally taking wings. However, there is still many questions to be answered like jobs for local people, naming of the airport, connectivity problem & others. Also the economy of the area around the present HAL airport will be affected to an extent. The real estate business is already sky rocketting surrounding the new airport. The question for the long term will be with the new international airport,  how will the Bangalore Business district, electronics City & ITPL benefit. Will it help increase the Investment. Also what are the plans & how the present airport will be used.

Bellary & Shikaripur - Political Centerpiece of the Election

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

The Bellary politics has taken a curious turn with Divakar Babu of JDS defecting to Congress. With this, the fight is between the Cong & BJP. eEllary which traditionally has been the Cong bastion went to BJP in the last election courtesy the BJP mining lords. This has casued considerable heartburn among the Congress since then & congress is pulling out every card to defeat the BJP in its own turf. There is also rumor that Congress has entered into a secret alliance with the JDS there by helping it in the elections. The JDS also wants BJP defeted because of the allegations of janardhana Reddy’s 150 crore scandal by the JDS. So BJP has been trapped by cong & JDS in both Bellary & Shikaripur. How far will this benefit the parties is a wait & watch game.

The Karnataka Elections - BJP, Cong, JDS - Who will Call the Shots?

Friday, May 9th, 2008

The Karnataka Elections will serve as an indicator for the coming assembly elections. For the first time, Karnataka has had a coalition goverment & it was short lived. The Kichdi government right from the beginning had problems & the assembly was dissolved very early. Though different exit polls are predicting different kind of results, we’ll have to wait & see what the verdict will be. The development of northen karnataka has been a neglected one for decades & with the rampant landgrabbing & other issuses, south karnataka is a different story. BJP is hoping that it could win the sympathy votes of the people & come to power. S.M Krishna is the media savvy face of the party. It remains to be seen what role will Krishna play post elections. JDS is hoping that, it will get just enough seats to call the shots. The UPA led central govt will be watching the election results keenly for the next general elections.

GaaliPata - How high Will it Fly?

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Finally it is the time for the GaaliPata to fly. The question is how high it will fly. This film has generated a lot of hype ever since it was announced.  With Ganesh, Rajesh Krishnan & Diganth & Daisy Bopanna, Neetu & Bhavana this is a new kind of movie in the Kannada film industry. Coming on the heels of Mungaru Male, Director Packs off Bangaluru Huduga Ganesh & others to the Hill stations & water falls of the malnad region.

The Cinematography by Rathnavelu is nice. Music by Harikrishna. Songs are good. I wonder why Mano Murthy was not selected for the music. I beleive the music by Murthy would have made the difference. Lyrics by Jayant Kaykini is again at his best. I like the Minchaagi neenu baralu song very much. Video clippings of the movie is available on the Chitraloka website.

The difference between Mungaru male & Gaalipata is MUngaru Male generated the “Actual Hype” after the release. The movie was like a silent killer. No one had expectations about the movie.  So for GaaliPata, question is how high it will fly. Will GaaliPata set a new trend in the industry like Mungaru Male.?

Political Twenty20 in karnataka

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

The 20- 20 match between JDS & BJP in karnataka has ended abruptly with JDS batting for 20 months. BJP which had long hoped to bat had to go back to pavillion with a heavy heart. Though, the JDS managed to bat well with a few bouncers from Janardhana reddy Mine scandal, IT raids & others.  The JDS captain had been assuring the BJP captain in functions, in assembly sessions, etc that they would bat & even the BJP captain was saying that he would bat for remaining 20 overs. But what happened during the break is everybody’s guess.
Now the JDS says the bouncers from Sriramulu, Janardhana reddy was too much & Umpire didnot ask them to check it. (meant BJP didnot control them). The Spectetors in the state of Karnataka have to watch the developments mutely. Now the Invisible Head (Any guess?) of the Tournament wants to go for a fresh match. The other team (aka Congress) in the tournament is watching silently & may come out with a surprise at the last moment to win the tournament. Only time will say who will win the tournament.

Red Brigade in Green Malnad

Friday, June 29th, 2007

The naxal menace in malnad region of Karnataka is growing alaramingly. The recent killings & burning of bus has highlighed the increasing tensions. First one must ponder how the Naxals came to occupy the serene Malnad region. It could not have taken overnight. All along the Kuduremukh iron ore struggles, displacement of the tribals & others provided an avenue for the naxals to come to forefront in this struggle. The killings have been going on for years with no result. This has resulted in the bloodbath in the grren malnad region. Neither the govt or naxals are coming forward to settle the issue amicably. It is hightime we forget the differences & settle the issue. Always a Win-win situation is going to create a favorable environment.

Beijing-Lhasa Vs Hassan-Mangalore Train Link

Monday, April 30th, 2007

It has been more than 10 years since the Hassan- mangalore train route is stopped. The railways have been running goods train on the route for quite sometime but they are yet to start a normal service. This is one of the magnificent routes & I have childhood memories of going on this route. The bus transpost on Bangalore- Mangalore route is lucrative & may be one of the lobbies behind stalling of starting the service. Opening this route increases the tourism & employmentin the region. When Chinese can connect Beijing with Tibet through railway line against such hazardous conditions, why the hell it takes 10 years to link Hassan to Mangalore? We love to talk about our great economy, globalization, IT, future is India & what not but when compare ourselves with the Chinese efficiency we are no where.

Kannada Movies - Mungaru Male and Duniya

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

does not requrie established faces for a movie to be hit. No one had expected that new kannada directors can produce a film of such a calibre. After many years, we have seen people queing up in theaters for movies. Such directors should be encouraged by the govt and provide tax break. The acting, songs, choreography all are good. The success of new comers has raised doubts about the doyens of kannada film industry. As the director of mungaru male says many actors rejected his offers due to low budget, this should be an eye opener for them. The need of the hour is to produce good quality movies with good songs. Not taking every tom, dick and getting it directed by some Harry for God knows whatever the reason! long live Kannada film Industry

From Mavalli with love to Norway

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

With the sale of MTR foods, one of Bangalore’s oldest brands has fallen into the foreign hands. No one had imagined MTR foods would get 450 crores. The surprising thing is while many Indian companies are making a purchase abroad, why not any Indian takers for this? What Orkla is going to do with MTR is still a puzzle & hwo they would fit Indian food products in to their Product line. Many patrons of MTR were shocked that even the MTR hotel is also sold in this process. To their surprise, it has been said that MTR is in the mayya’s control. There are lots of unanswered questions like why suddenly the sell off, why not to some US or UK company where there is a good market for MTR foods but to some Norwagian company. It is yet to be seen how orkla will utilize the MTR foods. Lets hope it will not mess up with the product line & introduce some thing else down the line. The sad part is one of the finest brands of kannadigas has been taken over by Norway company. May be Vijjay Mallya could have made a bid & retained the company in the Kannadigas hands.

The Never Ending Cauvery Row

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

Karnataka has never imagined tribunal would give such a verdict & would have to do with less water than TN would get. I dont understand the way tribunals work. Cauvery takes its birth in Karnataka & is the life line of KA. KA people naturally think it is their right to use Water they want. First of all, KA should have the right to use water. Remaining water should be given to TN. Also TN farmers should stop going for 3 crops. When their KA counterparts are doing with 1 crop, why 3 crops & water for that. This has been going for centuries. Bringing River water under the National act would not solve the issue. Also KArnataka is far more developed than TN. Karnataka has been shown step motherly attitude by teh center comparde to KA. It is because of KA & bangalore India is recognized as the silicon valley of east. IT exports from Bangalore contribute more to GDP than any other city. The verdict is also ill timed. Had the congress govt were in power in KA, such a verdict would not have been there. The tribunal must understand the sentiments of KA. Who is ready to part with their own resouce for the sake of others. Let KA get a fair verdict & long live KA.
