Social Media Optimization - A New Source of Traffic

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

The rise of social networking & Digg Centric websites has created a new source of traffic for the websites. A few years ago Search engines ware the major source of traffic. These days a well dugg story would drive more traffic than the search engines. Myspace & Digg are the early trend setters in the Social Media optimization. The titles in the Dugg story play a very important role in getting votes & hence more traffic. This is called as link bait. The dugg story can be about Breaking news, polls, Pics, Tech news(particularly Apple news) & others. The recent HD-DVD password code at Digg showed how powerful the users can be. So while optimizing the websites we should not just think of Search engines, we have to optimize it for Social sites as well. Even Google gives more imprtance to stories which are dugg by users & have obtained top votes. The chart shows how SMO drives traffic to my blog over a period of 3 months. (Indian pad & rambhai are Indian Social Media websites)

Blair has announced that he will step down as PM on June 27. Blair will long be remebered for his War on terror with the US. His decade long at the office was not without controversy. Gordon Brown, Blair’s closest friend, if all goes well will shift to 10 Downing Street. Blair has crafted a new relationship with the US during his stay as PM. After Harold Wilson in 1976, Blair is the First PM to leave on his own will rather than losing an election. Being the nearest ally of the US, the world will be watching closely how the new PM will work on War on Terror. Though his first two terms in office was marked by significant work, his third term was not without the problems. India has developed good relations with Britain under Blair & has resulted in increased trade between the two.
